More than four years in the design and making, the Tuscania Memorial is a bronze relief sculpture on permanent exhibit at Lower Ochsner Park (820 2nd Ave.) in Baraboo, Wisconsin. It commemorates the rescue of more than 1,900 American soldiers on the night of February 5, 1918 by the British Royal Navy after their troopship, the Tuscania, was torpedoed by a German U-boat off the northern coast of Ireland.

In particular, the memorial draws attention to the courage and compassion of the Scottish civilians on the Isle of Islay in rendering assistance to dozens of frozen, bone-weary American "Doughboys" after a 10-hour lifeboat ordeal at sea.

The Tuscania Memorial was designed by local Baraboo sculptor Homer Daehn. Every effort was made to capture the drama and historical authenticity of the rescue operation as it actually happened. Using old photographs and letters, eyewitness accounts, and government records, Homer was able to capture the minutest of details in his work.

The memorial was officially unveiled to the public on Saturday, November 10, 2018, one day shy of the 100th anniversary of the armistice that ended the First World War.
